Entries from the bed and breakfast guest books:

A perfect roosting spot on the long road to Scotland.

As many of your other guests have testified 10/10 for comfort.

How much nicer it is to stay in a nice B&B than in a hotel.

An abode of peace and tranquillity.

After the tawdry rush of the motorway the timeless quiet here is balm for the soul.

When we phoned up to book we never imagined what a splendid B&B it would be: excellent 

A wonderful welcome and hospitality ditto. Yummy breakfasts and all. Relaxing in warm cosy welcoming surroundings.

Yet another wonderful stay in this truly magical place.

Very atmospheric.

Badger the dog enjoyed being able to join us too – a new adventure for him, usually resigned to sleeping in the car.

A wonderful house, exceeded only by the excellence of the hosts, all four of them. We shall return!

A memorable B&B. Thank you Anna for your welcome, Henry for our super breakfast and the children for the introduction to the piglets!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stop and really appreciated your hospitality.

We are so happy to be back, we enjoy our time here so much … Delicious breakfasts, so much home-made and full of goodness … The scents of honeysuckle, roses and elderflower mingling and surrounding us … it is all so completely different from anywhere else.

We have loved our stay here and hope to be back.

Extremely comfortable and peaceful rooms with every detail carefully provided. Especially loved the suntrap garden where we enjoyed our afternoon cup of tea. Such a treat having breakfast in your historic family home.

A marvellous 3 days in superb surroundings with such a warm welcome and outstanding hospitality from the entire family. Nicholas’ scrambled eggs were exceptional …

What a wonderful place to stay, so steeped in history you can feel it coming out of the walls!

Bella the Labrador so enjoyed the walks.

No more shall I do the journey from Aberdeen to Hereford in one day! Thank you both so much for making me and my three Labradors so welcome.

A warm welcome in this beautiful place.

We don’t normally break our journey but what a charming discovery. Wonderfully comfortable quarters and comfy bed.

Thank you so much for making us so welcome – a snowy stay! Warm and cosy in here …

Super comfy bed and great cookies! (Perfect scrambled eggs.)

Wonderful as ever.

The best breakfast we have ever had – homeward bound with a big bag of Johnby sausages.

All the things we love about a house – history, atmosphere, sheer beauty.

A most peaceful atmosphere to enjoy and savour in a busy and rushed world.

A. Sawday has done it again!

I’m not sure who loved it more, the parents, the kid or the dog!

Love the bacon! And the history …

Your bacon is, without doubt, the best I’ve ever eaten!

Another brilliant stay, looking forward to next time. Tristan (aged 10)

Glorious location … Breakfast a triumph, and we’ll be back for the sausages!

Just thank you, for sharing your lovely home, for the people I have met at breakfast and the long talks, the flowers and long views, music and history.

Stunning garden!

Lambs bleating, birds singing, bluebells and blue sky – certainly more than the average stopover!

Best sausages I’ve ever had.

Such a lovely place to rest our travel-weary heads. We are already checking next year’s holiday dates for when we can return.

Excellent food, excellent hospitality baronial ambience, friendly pigs, all in a beautiful historical setting … recommend it to anyone unreservedly.

We couldn’t have hoped for better hosts or lovelier accommodation.

Everything we needed, we were looked after fantastically and my boys enjoyed playing with the children.

Excellent stay – what a place! Enjoyed tinkling the ivories.

The best sausages and bacon we have ever eaten and our children loved playing with yours.

Just had to come back to see your lovely place and eat your delicious breakfast again.

Our little dog had a fantastic time exploring the gardens, forest and local area.

We have had a perfect stay. Henry is the host with the most and you must be proud to have such a beautiful home. What a super tasty breakfast too.

Magnificent breakfast in the grand Great Hall. … a great host.

An awesome find through Sawdays. We loved staying in the Studio with the wonderful books and grand piano (which my son loved to play).

Such fun to stay.

We have so enjoyed staying in the Studio, a perfect place to stay and heaven for our very elderly labrador!

Once again enchanted by our stay in Johnby! And this time a piano to tinkle on too … some saussies to take with us to try and emulate Henry’s big breakfast. Thank you!
